Awesome Tips for Becoming a Classic Indian Flutist

Awesome Tips for Becoming a Classic Indian Flutist

Classic Indian flute music revolves around the bansuri, a special side-blown flute from the subcontinent. The art of playing bansuri has witnessed a revival in recent years. Our benefactor, Nash Naubert, has a significant role to play in this.

This claim of bansuri revival is not an exaggeration as many people are now applying for an online flute course. There is a heightened level of interest among many youngsters to learn flute online. Encouraged by such a positive development, we too have launched online flute classes for beginners.

You will be taught the professional knowledge and skills of Nash Naubert via flute training online. Besides the basic bansuri learning, you will also come to know various unique tips in our online bansuri classes. Some of these quality tips are given below.

Movement of the Lips

This is a common problem for many beginners of flute classes online. When they learn to play flute online, they become so focused on other aspects that they forget to move their lips while playing. This is obviously a big mistake that must be avoided in online flute classes.

Beginners must understand that a strong, balanced air stream is vital for playing bansuri or any wind instrument. You have to understand that flute is quite similar to a bugle and you should treat it as such in your Indian flute classes.

Lip strength and flexibility are two important factors in lip movement. You must make an ample amount of lip movement to obtain smooth-controlled intervals. Merely blowing softly or strongly is not enough to make appropriate changes in the sound.

Each Sound is Unique

One thing that we tell learners in our online flute classes is that there is uniqueness in every sound.  You must understand before beginning to learn to play the flute that your sound is you. The relationship between your sound and your bansuri is similar to the relationship between you and your reflected mirror image.

Creating a beautiful melody will become possible when you listen carefully to yourself. Then you must compare this sound to other pleasing sounds. This comparison then becomes the key in your improvement and refinement.

The improvement and refinement shall come only through much experimentation. This involves repetitive cycles of listening to playbacks of practice sessions, and imitating sounds. As you can see, this would require some serious effort.

 Having the Right Attitude

Whatever class you may join to learn flute online for beginners, having the right attitude is a must. It is in fact a pre-requisite aspect of becoming a top-notch flutist.

Without the right attitude, you will not succeed in this field. This is why having the right attitude is more important than possessing a talent for flute learning. There are countless people who had immense talent but never progressed due to the wrong attitude.

The importance of attitude is so huge that we recommend beginners to even fake it if they have to. Perhaps by faking it for a sufficient period of time, it is hoped they would eventually attain the right attitude. Afterwards, it will become a natural part of their professional flutist career.

Prioritize the Vibrato

Using the vibrato is an essential element of making your flute tune expressive. It will also add a personal touch to your bansuri performance. We would suggest you to use a metronome to gain technical control over the vibrato mechanism.

The thing you need to do here is to get the speed and intensity under control. Try practising deep and shallow vibrations with a metronome to develop effective control. An important point to remember is that vibrato must be incorporated into the early flute learning stage.

In the beginning, the students must count the vibrations. Afterwards, they should try to play with more freedom, by regulating intensity and speed according to the style of the tune. Always remember, an unchanging vibrato makes for lacklustre tune and music.

Never Ignore the Dynamics

Having a wide range of dynamics is a weighty aspect of playing bansuri that must not be ignored. It has been found that many students stick to the comfort zone of forte and mezzo-forte. They then find it difficult to break the mould in advanced stages.

Avoiding playing with a wide range of dynamics can be an indication of a lack of creativity. Another reason for this could be poor lip flexibility and strength. Whatever be the reason, the student must try to sort it out.

The consequence of sticking with only forte and mezzo-forte is playing sharp in ff while in high register passages. Similarly, playing flat in p while in low register passages also happens. Dynamics is just like personality, it can be either lively or dull.

Conclusion

These were the five tips from the guidance of Nash Naubert. We hope that these tips would prove beneficial for you when you learn to play flute. Try to implement these skills in your regular flute training online schedule.
